Introducing Girls Education International's Newest Board Member!! We are excited to introduce Shelly Braun, a longtime supporter of our Tanzania partner organization, Project Wezesha. Shelly will be joining the Girls Ed board as our Treasurer.
Shelly earned her PhD in Medical Anthropology at the University of Utah. Her interests in culture, health, and learning have taken her through a fun and sometimes winding path through the public, nonprofit, academic, and private sectors. She started her career as a public-health nutritionist, has worked as an advocate for effective health policy and a developer of volunteer trainings for a number of local nonprofits, and has taught at a number of Utah universities. She currently works as a consultant, helping clients create learning-centered professional educational experiences, coaching writing, and tutoring. Shelly loves to be outdoors and takes every opportunity to travel far and wide.
Shelly also has a personal connection to Tanzania. She traveled there last December and spent time getting to know many of our students, as well as our in-country managers - Lucas and Madaga. She has seen firsthand the impact of the work our small organization has on the lives of young people in the Kigoma region, and the ripple effect into their communities.
Please join us in welcoming Shelly to the board! We are fortunate and thrilled to have her!
